Two greenway options are currently being considered for the Spring Garden Street Greenway. One option will look at swapping the bicycle lane and the parking lane to create a protected buffer along the curb (more on this later). Another idea being floated is to consolidate space down the middle of the street and create a protected median greenway. Median greenways have been built in New York City and Washington D.C. Here’s a short video to give a sense of the D.C. greenway on Pennsylvania Avenue.
This is a simple design that can be accomplished with just paint, but what what could it look like if we designed new curbs and trees for added protection, shade, and stormwater management?
